Ashwagandha Milk Recipe: A Perfect Beverage for a Good Night's Sleep
This ashwagandha milk recipe combines soothing herbs to create a warm, comforting evening drink that supports restful sleep and relieves anxiety. Rooted in Ayurvedic tradition, ashwagandha powder is mixed with heated milk and honey to help relax the mind and body, promoting deep rest when consumed a few hours before bedtime.
Health Benefits of Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha root powder and extracts are known for enhancing resilience to stress and boosting the body's defense against diseases through active antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds called withanolides. It's a rejuvenating nerve tonic that addresses issues like adrenal exhaustion, hormonal imbalance, and general weakness. Despite not being a sedative, it is frequently included in energy-building preparations to promote vitality and longevity.
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons chamomile flowers
2 tablespoons skullcap
2 teaspoons lemon balm
1 teaspoon rose petals
1/2 cup milk or almond milk
1 quart water
1 tablespoon ashwagandha powder
1/4 teaspoon mucuna powder
1/8 teaspoon cardamom powder
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ginger powder
1-2 teaspoons raw honey
NOTE: The above herbs and powders can be found inexpensively on Amazon.
Directions:
Make the Herbal Tea: Infuse the chamomile, skullcap, lemon balm, and rose petals in a quart of hot water and let it steep for 15-20 minutes. Strain and cool.
Mix Ingredients: Blend the milk (or almond milk as a substitute) with the ashwagandha powder, mucuna powder, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, and honey.
Warm the Milk: Warm your ashwagandha milk to the desired temperature in a glass or ceramic pot over low flame.
Combine the Herbal Tea and Milk: Mix the two together thoroughly.
Serve and Enjoy: Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy about 3 hours before bed.
Tips:
You can also use ashwagandha powder from capsules or freshly grind your own from dried roots.
For a richer drink, add a teaspoon of ghee or coconut oil as a vegan alternative.
This recipe makes approximately 3-4 servings. Store the milk in the fridge for up to 3-5 days.
This ashwagandha milk is not only a delightful evening beverage but also a nurturing addition to your nightly routine, helping you achieve better sleep and overall wellness.
Take care,
Sophia
